THE OILS IN MY REGIMEN

I am  a major lover of oils. Why? Simple, my hair loves oils! I use oil weekly in my wash routine and for sealing and scalp oiling.  I personally favor the heavier oil because of the density of my hair. My hair is still in the TWA (teeny weeny afro) stage but I have a lot of hair which requires a lot of moisture. So which oils do I use?

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

When I sit with other ladies and have hair talk, this is the first oil I mention. It is nourishing, moisturizing and absorbs in the hair faster than coconut oil. It promotes growth and add shine to the hair. I use it for;
  • Scalp oiling- massage in the scalp for one minutes after applying to the scalp with applicator bottle or fingers.
  • Hot oil- heat oil on hot water for a minute and apply to the hair. Leave in for 30 minutes and cover with steam cap. Co-wash or shampoo after.
  • Oil Rinsing- I love oil rinsing. After shampooing or co washing, apply oil to the hair and leave on for one hour. Rinse hair with warm water and apply conditioner or deep conditioner.
  • Sealing- I use this seal in moisturizers, or deep conditioners on wash days. I also do this when I am deep conditioning overnight. You will get great softness when you seal your deep conditioner in, whether you are doing it for 30 minutes or longer.
  • Mix with deep conditioner- 2 table spoons of this oil can act as a boost for moisture if you don't want to add the oil over the conditioner.

Coconut Oil

This is a favorite in the natural hair world and I can understand why! I do like this oil! It helps prevent split ends, moisturizes and conditions the hair, promotes growth, strengthens and promotes thickness. I have been using this from the beginning of my natural journey and I have seen growth. I personally use this oil for:

  • Hot oil
  • Sealing
  • As a leave- in (apply immediately after rinsing conditioner/deep conditioner before styling)
  • Pree-poo -adding oil to the hair before shampooing. Can be done over night or a hour before shampoo. Apply plastic bag or steam cap after applying the oil.
  • Oil rinsing

Amla Oil

This is another favorite! I love this even though I am almost out *sad face*. Its light with a musky smell. It contains minerals, proteins, fats and vitamins that promotes healthy hair. You will find this online or in Indian stores. Its is really moisturizing and leaves hair very shiny. I use this weekly as hot oils, leave in and for oil rinsing.

Navratna Oil

This is another indian/ayuverdic oil. Its is very minty, light, musky smelling oil.Its is said to help with headaches, premature hair fall and many other benefits. I use this as a leave in. The smell can be over whelming as well as the minty feeling but the smell will wear off after awhile. It leaves my hair soft when I use it as a leave in.

Elasta QP Olive oil and Mango Butter Growth oil

I for one love this oil. I won this oil in a giveaway done by longandhealthy over a year ago and i still have a lot left. I use this when I am blow drying, as hot oil and when doing the Green house effect method. I absolutely love the smell of this oil, and is light enough for persons who does not have thick hair. I don't know if I get growth using this, since I already use the green house effect (GHE) method for growth but if you are a person who does the inversion method this will surely help getting that one inch in a week.

My recent purchase is castor oil, and I will have a separate  review on that for my natural hair. I used it during my relaxed days and had great growth results. So look out for my castor oil review soon.
