POROSITY TALK: HIGH POROSITY

I must apologize for the long wait for this post but last week was rather hectic for me. But lets get right into this post.

Hair with High Porosity absorbs moisture alittle too much which causes frizz and also loose moisture easily which results into dryness. The causes to high porosity can be from heat damage, chemical processes, rough treatment or environment. This type of hair contains holes and gaps in the cuticle which again lets too much moisture into the hair leaving it prone to frizz, and tangling in humid weather.
The use of anti-humectants during humid weather is effective, which will help deal damaged cuticles and prevent them from absorbing excess moisture. Since it looses moisture quickly, layering products quickly can help fill in the gaps and further protect your hair from loosing moisture. the use of leave-ins, moisturizers and oils/ sealants is effective for your hair. The L.O.C method should be helpful and heavy butters.

Regimen For High Porosity Hair

Deep Conditioning- This will help fill the gaps and keep hair moisturized. Can be done once to twice a week or at least twice a month.

Protein Treatments- The importance of incorporating this into the regimen of high protein hair is to gain strength and not break as frequently. Since highly porous hair has holes in the shaft, protein temporarily fill those holes and strengthens the hair. Protein treatments are usually advised monthly but light protein treatments every few weeks in between can help keep balance and health.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinses-  This is great for balancing the hair and scalp pH, removing product build up, treating dandruff and hair loss. Apple cider vinegar has acidic properties that return the hair to its original pH of about 4.0. Balancing the hair's pH results in closed hair cuticles. The hair's cuticles are raised but water and hair products during shampooing sessions. A weekly or biweekly ACV (apple cider vinegar) rinse can close hair cuticles leaving the hair more moisturized and smoother in appearance, It will ultimately decrease your hair porosity.

Aloe vera-  A natural pH balancer and is moisturizing for your hair. You can add a little to your leave-in conditioner before applying to your hair. Can also add it to your butter before protective styling. or simply applying it yo your hair without mixing it with anything.

Coconut Oil- one of the few oils with a compositiob small enough to penetrate the hair shaft. Proven to prevent damage and protein loss when applied before shampooing. Also great as a pree poo.

I have high porosity hair and using this regimen this pass month has help improve the health of my hair tremendously. This was my previous regimen when relaxed and transitioning. I have quite a few product to review since changing my regimen so look out for that. \
As mentioned before, do the porosity test and choose which regimen works for you. If you have medium porosity, them stick to what is working for you. and Low manipulation and protein treatments once a month should help maintain your hair's health.

I hope my tips and trick are helpful in your Hair Journey
See you in my next post
