WHAT IS A HOT OIL TREATMENT?

Happy Holidays My lovely readers and supporters! I am really sorry I could not get that out earlier but I have been super busy! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

Hot Oil Treatment

"Hey Kelly! What is a Hot Oil Treatment?"  This is a frequently asked question for me. Many person see products that are meant for that reason and do not know how and what this treatment is for. At one point in time, I too was ignorant to what a Hot Oil treatment was! So going in dept on this will be a pleasure!

A hot oil treatment is the process you doing before and even after shampooing. It is done by heating oil in hot water or microwave  for 1 minute or less depending on the amount, and apply to the hair. You then cover hair with plastic cap for 10 to 15 minutes, then proceed to shampoo or co wash.  If you have a huge bottle of oil, just simply pour the amount you need in an applicator bottle or cup. A Hot Oil Treatment is done to
  • Replenish Moisture into the hair
  • helps scalp condition such as dandruff.
  • helps with frizzing
  • gives the hair sheen
  • Strengthens hair which in return causes length retention

It is a great treatment on all hair types., whether relaxed, natural, heat damage and color treated hair. Many people do it only when shampooing but I do it on every wash day if i can. I co wash mostly, and sometimes I do The Hot oil Treatment for 30 minutes  then proceed to co washing. My hair is left super conditioned, soft and shiny.

What Oil  Can Be Used?

  • Coconut Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Argan Oil
  • Oils made by companies for that purpose.
  • Amla Oil
I personally mostly use natural oils. Just about any oil that is safe for hair use can be used and adding an essential oil such as peppermint can protect from bacteria. Coconut oil gives me superb results. MY curls pop and thank me when I do this process. The heat will help the oil penetrated better. I recommend doing this treatment at least once per week. Do not make the oil too hot! After a month of doing this, you will see improvement in your hair. You can deep condition after shampooing or cowash. On days when I am cowashing, I sometimes do not deep condition after.
