There are alot of  father who love seeing their daughter's their lovely natural hair. Sometimes when mom is away or a bit busy, they have to be the one to do a quick pony tail. Also, there are single father's out there. So how can they venture into girl world and try to create a cute or messy bun? Alittle more challenging, keeping the little one from screaming and hollering? Let's start with the Basics!

WASH DAY

wide tooth comb. Best for detangling

Even I as an adult dread this day! I remember as a child, I would holler  cry when I saw a shampoo bottle. The first top of having a ' Tear free Wash Day' is
  • Sectioning:  Putting  the princess' hair in sections. Meaning, parting he hair in either two or four sections, depending on the thickness or amount of hair she has. You may use sectioning/ butterfly clips or metal free hair ties to hold each sections. This will help you to maneuver the hair with out creating too much tangles.
  • Shampoo:  You can use a mild shampoo, possibly one without harsh Sulfate. Allow the child to sit in the tub and gently tilt her head backwards, so that the water do not run in her face. Shampoo each section atleast once, depending on how often you wash her hair and how much product you use. Gently rub scalp with the tip of your finger (not nails) to remove grease/build up.
  • Conditioning: There are plenty of conditioners designed for little girls that have atleast three uses. A Detangler, Conditioner and Deep conditioner
  1. The Conditioner is meant to soften and provide moisture for your daughters hair. A conditioner should provide alot of slip or softness.
  2. A Dentangler is just like a conditioner but most detanglers is like a conditioner you do rinse out of the hair, which is also know as a Leave-in conditioner. Detangling is an important part of wash day and I require you doing so on wet or damp hair. Reason being is that when you comb natural hair in its dry state encourages breakage. The softer the hair the better. Less breakage and easier to 'comb-out'! No tears!
  3. A Deep Conditioner is meant to deeply penetrate the hair to maintain its moisture and strength. For best result, follow the instructions on the back of which ever product you are using in your daughters hair.
Deep Conditioner: use after shampooing

But if you still are not sure, apply generous amount of the conditioner to each sections. Use a wide tooth comb to detangle from the ends of the hair working your way up to the roots. After that, twist that section of the hair and continue to the others. After you completed all the sections, leave the conditioner in her hair for a couple minutes then rinse. Our next step is

  • Towel-Drying: This is to remove the excess water/moisture from the hair. Use a micro-fibre towel or an old cotton t-shirt to do so. Reason for this is that regular bath towels promotes frizzing and tangles. You don't want to recreate tangles you just spent time combing out.
  • Moisturizing and Styling: Its is pretty important to keep her hair moisturized which is why you will need a moisturize and an oil. You will need a leave-i conditioner or water based moisturizer and either raw shea butter or simply Natural coconut oil to seal in the moisture. Again, apply this in sections and style.  This is where you either twist in smaller sections or just add clips and hair ties to her hair.
Cute Hair ties Your Daughter might Love

You are now finished! How simple? The better your products are, the faster wash day is. On days when you are not washing her hair, simply spray hair hair with water (not dripping wet just lightly dampen) and re-apply her moisturizer and oil and restyle as you please. a few product lines desinged for girls which you can choose from are;

  • Just for me
  • African Pride Dream kids
  • Dark n lovely Beautiful beginning
  • Organics Kids
  • ORS kids
and plenty more!!

It might be a challenge at first and it might seems alot to take in now, but over time everything will work out perfectly.  This is also for those men with Sons  who decided to keep their hair long. There are also many tutorials on youtube you can watch and learn even MORE from. Feel free to leave your comments and questions below if you are still a bit confused/lost.

Until my next post..
