THE IMPORTANCE OF SEALING
Hello Readers and a Happy New Year1 How time flies! I cannot believe we are at the end of 2016. I hope you all had a good year .
Lets get started
Now, I have stressed the topic of moisturizing and sealing but I still finding women messaging me about "what is sealing?" and "how do you seal?" . But the main the question is "is sealing important?" I used to question the fact of sealing and I never used to seal my hair. I saw many youtubers do this method. My hairdresser never used to encourage this method, so I never saw it necessary.
It is until one day, I asked my aunt to moisturize my hair and I realized that after she applied the moisturizer, she applied a hair dress. I asked why she did that and her reply is to "lock/seal in the moisture in the hair". My hair was moisturized for days after she did that . I was so surprise. My hairdresser saw it as extra and weighing my hair down. I regret not doing it earlier.
I recently started using this Castor Oil sealing since Castor Oil is considered a sealing oil. My hair has improved a whole lot since using this oil as a sealant. My hair is more moisturized and shinier. Sealing actually locks in the moisture in the hair which makes the moisture last longer. As simple as that. Some oils do not act as a sealant but as a moisturizing oil, which means it absorbs in the hair completely. so it doesn't help with lock in moisture in the hair. Coconut oil is considered as a moisturizing oil. It is absorbed into the air shaft completely, which is why your hair might feel dry after. Coconut oil does not seal, which is why it appears to make your hair dry.
Knowing your oils and its benefit will also help improve how you use them and the results you get in your daily regimen. I will list a few sealing oils so you can choose which works better for you.
Here they are:
- Castor Oil
- Grapeseed Oil
- Jojoba Oil
I encourage sealing when you apply moisturizers and deep conditioner. I rarely deep condition without sealing. I never go without sealing in my daily moisturizing routine. I love castor oil. I have high density hair, so this thick oil works well for my strands, even tho my strands are medium to fine.
I also encourage to know your hair type, as in if its fine, medium or thick, if you have high or low density, and if your hair's porosity! This the importance of Hair Typing for me. I have made a blog post on my thoughts on that topic for me. Just click the link to see that previous post.
Until my next post,
