THE IMPORTANCE OF SHAMPOOING AND DEEP CONDTIONING
Hello
Readers! Welcome to my Blog once more and let’s jump right in!
So,
I am frequently asked ‘How do you maintain the health of your hair and its
length?” and my answer to that questions is frequent deep conditioning and
Shampoo. I know I said I hate shampoos in a previous blog post, But I found out
that shampooing my hair decreases the chance of scalp build up and my hair is able
to absorb products much more since my strands are also free of product build
up. This promotes growth and a healthier hair overall.
The
purpose of Deep Conditioning is to maintain the moisture/ protein balance in
our hair. Some people may require them deep conditioning your hair every week,
while others may need to once or twice a month. I personally deep condition my
hair once weekly. I do what’s best for my hair. I also shampoo every week to
rid my hair of all sweat, and products (such as daily moisturizer) I used
during the week.
Before,
I used to co wash and deep conditioned but my hair became very weak, limp and
dull. Once I clarified and deep conditioned, the health of my hair has improved
from then. I have since stopped co-washing, and have been shampooing weekly. I started using conditioner which
are made specifically for deep conditioning. These conditioners that are made
specifically for deep conditioning will be marked ‘Deep Conditioner’ or ‘Masque/
Mask’. I prefer to get these ones since they are made to penetrate the hair
shaft and hydrate your hair. Knowing your conditioners will be a big plus. Every
conditioner is made for a specific reason. There are protein conditioners,
moisturizing conditioners, color sealing conditioners, regular rinse out
conditioners such as Vo5 moisturizing conditioners and the list goes on.
The
main conditioners I use monthly are protein and moisturizing conditioners.
Protein conditioners are sometimes labelled as reconstructing / repairing
conditioners which consists of hydrolyzed proteins that penetrated the hair
shaft and fills the hair with protein where it’s needed. It helps to strengthen
your hair. Moisturizing conditioners hydrates the hair and makes it moisturized.
Strong protein treatments should be done once a month and moisturizing
treatments can be done weekly. A balance in both improves the elasticity,
strength and shine in your hair. Keeping your hair moisturized is a must, this
is key to length retention. It is important to find which deep conditioning
routine works best for you. Some persons do light protein treatments every two
weeks, every 3 or 4 weeks and some every six weeks.
Below
I will outline all deep conditioners I use in my regimen and how I use them.
(M) Means moisturizing treatment, (SP) strong protein and (LP) Light Protein
which I use every two weeks. They are;
·
TCB
Argan Oil from Morocco Deep Conditioner Treatment (M)
·
Motions
CPR (SP)
·
Mega
Growth Deep Conditioner (LP)
·
ORS
Replenishing Conditioner (LP)
These
are the main conditioners I use in my regimen. For right now, I am only using
TCB Deep conditioner and Mega Growth deep conditioner. I found out that these
two conditioners are made by the same company. I must say I really like these
two conditioners and will do a review on each in the future. With that said, I
must encourage persons to deep condition to get and maintain their hair’s
health. You can try the products I use and see how they work for me, or you can
try other one to see if they work with your hair.
TIP: Knowing your ingredients are key when choosing your conditioners. Conditioners that have less protein in them tends to be moisturizing. They sometimes mark moisturizing or just plain deep conditioner. Its best to read your ingredients list and make note of the meaning each ingredient in your product. You might have noticed that the Mega growth deep conditioner is also labelled Deep Conditioner but its ingredients is filled with hydrolyzed proteins, which automatically means its more of a protein based deep conditioner.
Until my next post..
